Home Security Systems - Tips from SecurityDirect.ie

Lets have a look at the main options for Burglar Alarm systems.

Dummy Alarms

This is the cheapest option out of the 3. It looks like a security system but doest actually work, however it may deter potential burglars.
This should be a last resort as most burglars will be aware of dummy systems and how to recognise them.
If you are on a tight budget, this will be your best option.

We sell the HKC Sabb Bell Box to customers looking for a deterrent. This can later be connected to the alarm system when its installed.

Non-Monitored Alarm System

This is probably the most common alarm system installed in Ireland.
It essentially means that when your alarm system is triggered, it will sound the sirens & strobes, but doesn't actually contact anyone to let them know the alarm has been activated.

GSM / TEXT Dialler

If you have a non-monitored system, you may wish to add on a device which will contact you or a designated person(s) when the alarm is activated.
This can be transmitted via Alarm Text Message  or can be a voice call.
Please see our recent post regarding the Text Messaging Service

Monitored Alarm System

This is the most expensive of the options as a monitoring fee must be paid annually.
This fee ensures that your home alarm is monitored 24/7. In the event of an alarm activation, the central station will be made aware of it and will contact the keyholders or the Gardai if required.

How to ensure you're secure?

  1. Ensure you set the alarm even when you're in the house. Most alarm systems can be 'part-set' so you can freely walk around the house while its on.
  2. Have your Security System serviced regularly,
  3. If you have P.I.R (Passive Infra Red Detectors) ensure there is nothing obstructing their view such as cobwebs,
  4. If you external bell isn't out of easy reach of criminals. Get a metal cage installed around it to ensure it isn't easy to remove.
  5. Insurance - check if you can avail of a discount with your insurance company,
  6. Always ensure you lock your doors & windows.
  7. Check if your installed is registered with the Private Security Authority.
  8. Try and avail of any Text Alerts in your area. Meath Crime Prevention page offers a wealth of information around the Meath area.

How often do you change the Battery for your House Alarm?

How often do you change the Battery for your House Alarm?

House alarm systems include rechargeable batteries to ensure that when there is an issue with the power supply, whether that be nature or intentional, that your alarm system still functions.

Your intruder alarm system is only as strong as the weakest point, so ensuring you have a good backup battery is vital.

Can I change a low amp battery for a higher ampage battery?
Most residential alarm systems use 12V  7ah Batteries, you can use a higher amp battery, but not a higher voltage battery.
Please ensure that if you are increasing the amps of your battery that it will fit in the alarm control panel. If you have any doubts about this, don't hesitate to give us a call.

How long will my battery last?

There is 2 factors here; How long will it last when the power goes and how long should it be before I need to replace it?
Most manufacturers would say the life span is 3-5 years. They are constantly being trickle charged in the event that the mains power fails.
Its important that your alarm system is serviced regularly to ensure that the battery is holding it charge.
The most common house alarm battery which we sell is the 12V 7Ah House Alarm Battery by Yuasa
If you require any information for batteries for any application, don't hesitate to give us a call.

Lost your Gate Controller?

Have you lost the controller for your Electric Gates?

We've been supplying Electric Gates in Ireland for over 10 years and one of the main questions we get asked by customers is what's the alternative to constantly replacing the key fobs for their Electric Gates.

We've been recommending our Automatic Gate Contoller for the last few years and its an excellent device which eliminates the need for gate fobs / buttons totally.

It uses a GSM Controller to open / close your gates so all you need is a phone.

ESIM110 automatic gate controller (GSM switch) is used to open gates, lift road barriers or turn on the electronic device remotely over GSM network. Using this device You can also remotely turn on or off the security system, receive SMS messages or calls about choosen system activities.
Calling on the number of the SIM card inserted in Esim010 the system checks if the number of the caller is recorded in the memory. If the number exists in the database, the system rejects the call and turns on the relay for the determined period. If the number of the caller is not recorded, the contacts of the relay are not connected.
Don't hesitate to give us a call to discuss your requirements further.

Feel Secure with SecurityDirect.ie

Leave Your Security Worries in The Capable Hands Of Security Direct

It’s really hard to feel secure nowadays, even in your own homes there are still impending danger. In the

schools of your children, how can you be assured of their safety? As you walk down the street on your

way to work, in your office or just being in a supermarket—you can never say that you are truly safe.

There are different kinds of danger looming anywhere in society, so it is really wise to be vigilant at this

time and age. After all, it is always better to be safe than sorry, as the famous line goes.

For that reason, we at Security Direct offers our products and services to help you create a secure

atmosphere whether in your home or business establishment. Even amidst the economic problem,

when families and companies are cutting back on costs to save, they still continue to invest in reliable

security system like CCTV cameras, electric gates and burglar alarm for their homes and offices. It has

been often said that fear of crime is greater than fear itself, so anything that makes you feel safe and

secure generally is why we are here for.

Your Safety Device Options

There are a lot of security devices available today that are all intended to perform best in specific

circumstances, they may have many different functions but really have a common purpose, to deter any

unauthorized access to facilities or homes and protect your or personnel and property against damage

and harm.

A single security device can be quite costly but is it worth it? Probably, especially if you think of the

possibilities a single CCTV camera can do for your business establishment. It would beat having two

security guards on the lookout for burglars and dishonest employees. Also, a CCTV can greatly reduce

the chances of crimes from ever happening since having a camera boosts the probability of the criminals

being caught.

You can also opt for a burglar alarm system that alerts you of an intruder in your homes, offices or

possessions. However, this type of device is commonly used in homes and retail stores that aren’t open

24-hours. It alerts anyone attempting to gain entrance and often than not, will frighten away potential

burglar with its noise and lights. The only limitation for a burglar alarm system is it isn’t very effective in

large areas like in a commercial building. Commonly, it is installed with another security component.

Another type of a security device is the electronic gates, typically used in residential properties, which

prevent intruders to trespass on the premises of your property. It can also be a precautionary measure

since electronic gates lets you avoid having any close encounter with an unknown and potentially

dangerous individual. Imagine having to open the gate personally to a stranger or having to go down

your car to manually open the gate. It can be a very risky situation, and one that you can avoid by

installing an electric gate in your property.

Safety is a big concern for everyone nowadays and we at Security Direct can easily help you choose the

safety device that best suits your needs. So, hurry and call Security Direct at +353 469010000 for your

home or office security needs and get the much needed peace of mind you deserve.
